Diverse Teaching

Students explored their emotions and creativity through this SEL-focused painting project, using brushstrokes and blending techniques to create peaceful nature scenes. Each piece reflects their unique perspective, incorporating personal feelings and stories through color, composition, and their creative twist, such as designing personalized flowers in the meadow. This calm, easy-paced activity encouraged self-expression, emotional exploration, and collaboration, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

At Smart Start Centers, I created an inclusive environment where students with diverse disabilities, ranging from learning disabilities to physical challenges, could thrive creatively. Working with individuals aged 15 to 35, I provided both independent and hand-over-hand instruction to ensure that each student could actively participate and succeed at their own pace. Through projects like graphic design, personalized posters, jewelry making, and photography, I tailored activities to align with their abilities and interests, fostering both creativity and confidence. For students with physical disabilities, I adapted materials and techniques to enhance accessibility, while those with learning disabilities received step-by-step guidance and encouragement to build skills. Beyond visual arts, I introduced activities such as yoga, Zumba, and makeup artistry to offer a well-rounded creative experience. This holistic approach empowered students to explore their unique talents, build independence, and find joy in self-expression, making art a tool for connection, growth, and achievement.

As an Art Specialist, I designed and facilitated inclusive art experiences, developed and implemented creative lesson plans, guided students through diverse art styles, and managed program logistics and activities.
